The new Nike Apex bringing together breakthrough Air Zoom technology, advanced materials and decades of runner insights. According to Nike, the shoe is noticeably lighter and ‘impossibly fast.’ Nike is backing this boast with stats. According to the brand, Apex delivers up to 40% more energy return than Alphafly 3 (in a men’s size 10) while weighing more than 10% less. This creates ‘a race-day experience that feels fundamentally different from anything that’s come before.’ Four specific features are behind these advances in performance. First, four Air Zoom units configured in two stacked pairs. Then, new ZoomX LT foam paired with a redesigned carbon fiber Flyplate. And finally, a glove-like Flyknit X upper.
Apex’s visible double-stacked Air Zoom platform creates a distinctive silhouette. Designed to compress and return energy, the platform produces a propulsive sensation that moves runners forward mile after mile. The cushioned platform works in tandem with a plush bed of responsive ZoomX LT foam. This race-specific midsole foam is softer, lighter and provides more energy return than Nike’s ZoomX foam. Above the Air Zoom system, the carbon fiber Flyplate is shaped to direct loads into the double-stacked Air Zoom units. A wider outsole and rocker geometry complete the system. Underfoot, Nike’s Fast Shot and GOATEK sole provides strategic traction and durability where runners need them most. This same attention to detail extends to the lightweight, breathable upper. A combination of Flyknit X fabric, a fitted knit collar and sock liner-free construction create a minimal, glove-like fit.
Along with the Alphafly 4, and Nike Swooshfly, the Apex is part of Nike’s next ear lineup, engineered to the specifications of champion racers. Nike Apex will be available in January 2027 at nike.com and select retailers.
