In the early 1980s when the Swiss watch industry was churning out quartz models, Blancpain went in the opposite direction. It did so with the smallest complete calendar moon phase of its time. Almost jewelry-like in its proportions, the watch measured just 34 mm and featured a double-stepped bezel. This was an act of faith in mechanical watchmaking. Though it would not be given the name Villeret until 2002, that watch established the design codes the collection still maintains.
Today, the Swiss watchmaker is expanding the Villeret collection with two vintage-inspired 38 mm models. The standout addition is the first ever Villeret Ultraplate with a salmon dial. Its sunburst finish shifts through the day between copper, rose and gold. Decoration is minimal, with black-coated 18 ct gold Roman numerals, a date window at 3 o’clock and the house moniker at 12 o’clock. Crafted from stainless steel, the case is anchored by an anthracite nubuck strap.

The second 38 mm Villeret Ultraplate reference is only available in Blancpain boutiques. It pairs a stainless-steel case with a gold-toned opaline dial decorated with 18 ct yellow gold numerals. A large date window sits at 3 o’clock and the traditional XII gives way to the JB monogram. While slender gold hands carry Super-LumiNova inclusions for readability after dark. Adding to its refined appearance, it’s anchored by an olive green alligator leather strap.
