Monitaly’s Latest Collection Is the Epitome of Laid-back SoCal Cool

Monitaly’s founder Yuki Matsuda seems determined to prove that L.A. style is not one-dimensional – athleisure for everyday, or jeans and a t-shirt with new kicks if you need to smarten up. For Spring 2022 Matsuda wanted to showcase L.A.’s South Bay lifestyle with a variety of pieces made to “accommodate the vast amount of activities Los Angeles has to offer, from the eclectic beaches, bustling city streets, daytime adventures that lead to late night fun.” He does this with a mix of handwoven ponchos, cotton blazers, billowing trousers, tie dye dishdashas and African block print shirts with matching drop crotch shorts. The collection is more laid-back than past seasons workwear meets military mix, but the overall feel is still pure Matsuda in the way it channels the designer’s SoCal-cool, vintage-loving sensibilities.
