Folk & Goodhood Celebrate Artist Daniel Johnston With New Capsule

Folk partnered with London’s Goodhood to develop a limited edition collection celebrating the life and work of singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston. Born in California and raised in West Virginia, Johnston was an alt-rock darling with some very famous fans. In 1992 at the height of his fame, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain wore one of Johnston’s Hi, How Are You? graphic t-shirts to the MTV Video Music Awards. Many of Johnston’s illustrations depicted original characters inspired by classic comic books. He also created comic strips focused on the struggle between good and evil, the dualistic teachings of religion and his declining mental health. Before passing away in 2019, Daniel Johnston created 17 albums and countless artworks poignantly exploring loneliness, alienation and longing. The 19-piece Folk + Goodhood Daniel Johnston collaboration uses the artists original illustrations on a camp collar shirt, tote bag and cushion along with a series of t-shirts and hoodies.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the collection will be donated to the Hi, How Are You Project, an Austin, TX based non-profit working to end the stigma around mental health ‘one conversation at a time.’
