NikeCourt’s Air Zoom GP Turbo Uses Proprietary Tech To Support Dynamic All-Court Play

At 6 feet 2 inches tall, American tennis ace Frances Tiafoe’s long frame seems at odds with his rapid acceleration and deft touch at the net. With an athletic, all-court game, he is equally comfortable ripping balls from the baseline. The Nike Air Zoom GP Turbo is designed for players like Tiafoe, providing exceptional court feel and support for athleticism that can be unleashed in an instant.

The GP Turbo – NikeCourt’s latest tennis shoe – uses an Air Zoom strobel unit that runs nearly the entire length of the foot, improving traction and stability while allowing dynamic movement across the court. This is the same proprietary tech used in Nike’s basketball shoes.

The shoes upper borrows design elements from Nike’s basketball and running shoes, past and present. The raked molded heel is reminiscent of the 1984 Nike Mac Attack. The upper’s translucent woven mesh and “Turbo” in the name are taken from modern running innovations. The “GP” comes from an early 1970s Nike-hosted semi pro tennis tournament.

“I’m moving everywhere on the court. I need footwear that helps me move quickly — and I also need to feel like my reaction time is quicker, so I can plant and go,” says Tiafoe. “The Zoom strobel gives me that responsive court feel while keeping me balanced and ready.”

The Nike Air Zoom GP Turbo is now available on nike.com and at select retailers. A second, coral/blue colorway will be released on July 13.
