Jaeger-LeCoultre just unveiled its latest Polaris Date, with a slimmer 40 mm case and reduced 12.9 mm profile. Inspired by vintage watches, the new, more compact proportions pay ‘homage to the Maison’s eponymous diving watches of the late 1960s.’ In keeping with the design codes of the Polaris collection, the lacquered dial features a striking blue gradient finish.
The dial’s depth of color is achieved by the meticulous application of 7 colored and 35 translucent layers of lacquer, all finished by hand. Its three levels of finish create distinct zones: an opaline bezel, grained index circle and sunray-brushed center. This improves legibility and highlights the different elements on the dial. Like the orange triangle of the inner bezel, the luminescent markers and numerals, and the skeleton hands with Super-LumiNova tips. Under the sapphire case-back, the in-house Calibre 899 produces 70 hours of power reserve.
