J.Crew Releases First-Ever Pre-Fall Collection

J.Crew has a way of tweaking preppy staples just enough to bring them into modern focus. For their first-ever Pre-Fall collection the retailer shot model Nicolas Ripoll on New York’s Shelter Island in gently rumpled shirts, cozy cashmere and chinos made for late summer, when the weather teeters between sunny days and cool nights. The influence of the setting was subtle, appearing in the softly faded, perfectly imperfect color of a garment dyed hoodie, broken-in chinos and a cable knit cotton cardi with a contrast shawl (inspired by a style from the archives) over a button collar chambray shirt made with organic cotton. Of all the layering options on offer, the broken-in four-pocket trucker jacket, lightweight cashmere sweaters and unstructured cotton-linen suit jackets are best suited for cooler days in any season.
