In 1971, Heuer became the Official Timekeeper of Scuderia Ferrari – the racing division of the Italian automaker. This made Heuer the first watchmaker to partner with a Formula 1 team. Four years later, Niki Lauda won the F1 World Championship, Ferrari’s first Drivers’ title since 1964. To celebrate, Heuer introduced the Monza collection in 1976. The Monza immediately stood out. Its bold styling and connection to motorsport quickly established it as one of the brand’s top chronographs. Over the following decades the Monza evolved. Successive interpretations reflected the technical progress and creative direction of their eras.
Building on the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph introduced in 2023, TAG just released a new edition limited of 500 pieces. The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph (CR5092.FC8372) incorporates modern materials and mechanical precision with the visual cues that define the collection. Housed in a 42 mm forged-carbon case, the matte black dial features red and white accents throughout – a Monza signature. Matte black chronograph counters track elapsed minutes with a red hand at 3 o’clock, and running seconds with a white hand at 6 o’clock. While white Super-LumiNova indexes and white lacquered hands ensure legibility. Framing the dial, the black flange combines both a tachymeter and a pulsometer scale.
Turning the watch over reveals the Calibre TH20-12, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. The movement incorporates a flyback chronograph function. This complication allows consecutive timing intervals to be measured without interrupting the chronograph. A single press instantly resets and restarts the timing sequence. Completing the timepiece is a black perforated calfskin strap finished with red stitching, a subtle reference to the world of classic motor racing.
