Watch Porn: Oris’s New ProPilot Altimeter Is Thinner, Lighter & More Powerful

The ProPilot Altimeter accurately relays the time, air pressure and altitude via a single dial – entirely mechanically.

Oris is bring back the ProPilot Altimeter. First introduced in 2014, the Altimeter is the only watch that combines an automatic mechanical movement with a mechanical altitude meter. The second generation model is slimmer, lighter and more powerful. Oris upgraded the movement to a slimline automatic with an improved 56-hour power reserve, making the case 1 millimeter thinner. Because the 3-D printed, single-piece case is made of a pioneering carbon fiber composite, used for the first time in watchmaking, the new Altimeter is 70 grams lighter. And, after three years of development, Oris upgraded the pressure box to increase the range of measurement. Where previously the scales topped out at 15,000 feet or 4,500 meters, the new module can gauge altitude up to 19,700 feet or 6,000 meters. Just like the original, buyers can chose between models configured in feet or meters. The altitude scale stands out against the black dial, circling the date window at 3 o’clock and Super-LumiNova coated hands, numerals and markers. Both models include a feet-to-meter conversion chart engraved on the grey PVD coated titanium case back.
