Early 80s Jamaican Dancehall Style Inspired Wales Bonner’s Latest adidas Collaboration

Grace Wales Bonner’s fist collaboration with adidas Originals, AW20’s Lovers Rock, reflected the British-Jamaican experience in 1970s London. For her latest collection Bonner continues exploring the diasporic connections between Britain and the Caribbean while moving the narrative forward to the early 1980s and the start of the danchall music scene in Jamaica. The shorts, t-shirts, and tracksuits of her Spring/Summer 2021 Essence collection mix textured knits, vintage cuts, mesh, ribbing and wallpaper worthy check prints. Bonner also updated two popular retro sneakers, the adidas Samba and Nizza.

The new WB Samba has a full leather upper with suede toe caps and heel tabs, three leather stripes, contrast stitching and co-branded details. Available in Black/Prime Green or Collegiate Navy/Cream/Mono Yellow, each pair comes with supplementary crochet laces. Bonner’s interpretation of the Nizza Lo features a canvas upper with thick top-stitching and enamel eyelets. The WB Nizza is available in Core White/Bold Pink/Mist Sun, Night Indigo/Mono Yellow/ Cream White, and Unity Purple/Glaze/Cream white.
