Wacko Maria SS21 Mixes It Up With References To Cheech & Chong, Basquiat, B.I.G. & More

Designer Atsuhiko Mori also included graphics inspired by Larry Clark, Tecate beer and Jonathan Demme’s 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs.

Inspired by his passion for art, music, film and fashion, Atsuhiko Mori co-founded Wacko Maria in 2005. Sixteen years later those same passions run high, Mori’s SS21 collection is virtual pick ‘n’ mix of cultural references. Camp collar shirts, shorts and tees feature photo prints with images from Larry Clark’s 1971 photo book Tulsa and Jonathan Demme’s 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. Mori also used stills from Cheech & Chong movies and artwork from Jean-Michel Basquiat, past collaborators, to create new prints and graphics. Japanese brand Nanga co-designed a winter ready, down filled leopard-print mountain parka. For summer, retro board shorts sport the logo of Mexican lager Tecate. Other highlights include matching work shirts and shorts from Dickies, and camp collar shirts and tees printed with images of and slogans from the Notorious B.I.G.

Wacko Maria SS21, available February 13 from Paradise Tokyo & Bodega Boston.
