The Dr. Martens x Sunspel collaboration that was announced earlier this year has just been given a launch date. The mod inspired polo shirt will be available on sunspel.com on May 23. Dr. Martens may be the better known of the two British brands but Sunspel is older and highly respected. Sunspel is something of a national institution in the UK. Founded in 1860 Sunspel still manufactures most of its inventory in England, cutting and sewing many pieces by hand. Sunspel is known for high-end underwear and has collaborated with Thom Browne, Paul Smith and Kris Van Assche. Now under the creative direction of British designer JW Anderson the company uses its extensive archive of iconic garments and patented fabrics as the inspiration for its collections.
Dr. Martens, or Doc Martens, one of the most popular and recognizable shoe brands in the world, are known for their air-cushioned sole boots with yellow stitching. Dr. Martens were invented by a German, Klaus Märtens, but perfected by an English shoe manufacturer, R. Griggs Group Ltd. Griggs bought the rights to Dr. Martens in the U.K. and added the trademarked yellow stitching and trademarked the soles as AirWair.
The polo shirts will be made in England of high quality cotton pique and available in Cherry or Black both with yellow tipping, to match Dr. Martens iconic yellow stitching.
