Made In The USA: Ralph Lauren Opening Ceremony Uniforms

And the gold goes to… Ralph Lauren. The U.S. Olympic Committee selected Ralph Lauren to design the uniforms for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. In spite of the Congressional indignation expressed with the revelation that Team USA’s London 2012 Ralph Lauren designed uniforms were manufactured in China, this is the fourth time the committee has partnered with the Polo brand. To right past sartorial wrongs, and generate a wave patriotic publicity, the uniforms for the coming winter games are made in America.

David Lauren, E.V.P. Advertising, Marketing & Corporate Communications, stressed that from concept to completed garment the company worked “to find the best partners to help us produce the Olympic uniforms at the highest quality for the best athletes in the world.”

From the family owned and operated Imperial Stock Ranch in rural Oregon to 100-year-old yarn spinners in Pennsylvania the design team worked with more than 40 vendors across the country. The kit includes a navy peacoat with a large Polo logo, a classic ski sweater with a reindeer motif, a crew neck sweater with a hand-sewn American flag, and tasselled knit hat.
