How To Wear Tie-Dye Without Looking Like A Dirty Hippie

Band of Outsiders Tie Dye Green

For a few years now a walk around New York City in the summer has felt like a stroll through The Last Supper: beards and sandals everywhere. Now the polished dip-dyed/ombre trend articulated perfectly by Phillip Lim and Neil Barrette for Spring/Summer 2012 has grown more nostalgic, morphing from dégradé to tie-dye just in time for summer.

But this doesn’t have to be a full on tattooed hippie Jesus moment. Tie-dye looks that mix the nostalgic technique with modern cuts are a great way to freshen up your Spring/Summer wardrobe. Scott Sternberg from Band of Outsiders leads the way with artfully died short-sleeved button-downs, an upscale version of sixties tie-dye that won’t have you looking like a dirty hippie.
