Great news, UNIQLO is collaborating with CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year (2011) Michael Bastian on a line of 16 polo shirts. ‘Greater’ news… the shirts are $19.90 each. The UNIQLO X Michael Bastian capsule collection will launch on May 20 and at these prices you can buy fifteen of these polo shirts for the price of one Michael Bastian mainline polo, or seven for the price of one GANT by Michael Bastian polo.
If you are a golf fan you may have already seen the shirts in action. Adam Scott, the winner of this year’s Masters Championship, is sponsored by UNIQLO and wore on of Bastian’s polo shirts on the second day of play. (See video below)
The hype that precedes most hi/low collaborations is usually unwarranted. The quality of the materials and construction of the garments is disappointing, and unless you are willing to get up at the crack-of-dawn, or sleep rough overnight waiting for the store to open, anything worth having is gone in first hour or two. But at $20 for a Michael Bastian designed cotton polo shirt… you may want to set your alarm.
