Watch Porn: Shinola Watches

Detroit is simultaneously in the mist of a financial crisis and a hipster revival. Tom Kartsotis, founder of Fossil, is betting on the hipsters. Kartsotis choose Detroit as the home of his newest venture Shinola, a manufacturing operation founded in 2011 with the belief that the words “made in Detroit” will make the companies watches, bicycles, journals and leather goods more appealing to consumers.

Shinola’s first watch is the limited edition Runwell. This individually numbered model is hand-assembled in Detroit using high quality Swiss parts. The Runwell is powered by the quartz Argonite 1069 movement with an illuminated dial precisely secured in a stainless steel case, with a back plate that reads “Built in Detroit.”

Shinola transformed 30,000 square feet of raw space inside the College for Creative Studies into a state-of-the-art watch factory. Located in the historic Argonaut building Shinola carefully controls the assembly of each watch in its facility to ensure they are both beautiful and built to last.

The Shinola Runwell will be available for July delivery in a 40mm or 47mm version for $550.00. Order your Runwell at www.shinola.com.
