Tommy Hilfiger: Shop For Charity

In his role as a Millennium Development Goal global leader Tommy Hilfiger launched the Promise Collection, a limited edition capsule collection “inspired by Africa and its people.” All proceeds from the collection will be used to support Millennium Promise, a nonprofit organization committed to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, including the eradication of hunger and extreme poverty. Millennium Promise uses an integrated approach to rural development, simultaneously addressing poverty in overlapping areas; agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, gender equity and business development. Millennium Promise has declared that 90% of the funds raised will be spent on programs & services, 3% on fund-raising and 7% on general expenses. As charities go that’s almost as good as it gets. The Promise Collection features pieces that have been manufactured in Africa or made with locally sourced cotton. The designs are the usual Tommy Hilfiger’s preppy staples re-imagined in a bold palette of vibrant African print. There is no easy segue here so… prints are hot right now, and African prints are everywhere. From a design and trend perspective the aesthetics of this collection couldn’t have better timing and the pricing is reasonable. So, locally sourced materials and/or indigenous manufacturing, 100% of proceeding going to a charity that spends 90% of income on programs and services all with the goal of eradicating hunger and extreme poverty… there are worse ways to spend your money.
