Ozwald Boateng Spring Summer 2012

Ozwald Boateng Spring Summer 2012 I Love Soweto
British designer Ozwald Boateng is famous for coining the phrase “bespoke couture” to describe his style, a marriage of traditional Savile Row tailoring and high fashion design. Boateng opened his first Savile Row shop at 23 and a few years later was the first tailor to stage a runway show for Paris Fashion Week, before taking over creative duties at Givenchy in 2004. He left Givenchy after the Spring 2007 collection and continued to use his signature mix of vibrant color, modern cut and traditional tailoring techniques to attract a new generation of customer to Savile Row.

For Spring Summer 2012 Boateng knew he “wanted to shoot this collection in Africa, and the ‘I Love Soweto’ shoot captured what I was trying to do so beautifully. Spring/Summer 2012 essentially represents a European take on an African aesthetic, and my African heritage coupled with the setting of Soweto really gave the concept it’s authenticity.”
