Would you wear a wedge?

It’s time to make the call. Are you in or out? Would you wear a wedge sole shoe? If you wear Red Wing boots in the winter then you are half-way there. It’s definitely not a trend for everyone but some of the wedge soles that are available make it hard to resist.

Mark McNairy and Haven have teamed up for a second time to create a wedged sole derby. These shoes are typical Mark McNairy shoes: they’re sick. Available in very traditional brown and black pebbled leather these derbies’s sit on a Vibram Cristy sole with a storm welt in safety yellow (brown) or cyan (black). If you are going to commit to the trend this is the way to do it. Generic Man’s lightweight wingtip oxford comes in a mix of canvas, on the vamp and quarter paneling, and leather with perforated details. The brown & navy versions have a definite spring/summer vibe and will get you noticed for the right reason.

If you prefer your non-traditional shoes with a little more tradition Grenson’s Archie V might be your new shoe. Grenson, founded in 1866, still makes its shoes in England. Old school. The Archie is hand-made and based on a classic brogue with a few key changes. The exaggerated eyelets and wedge sole make this a very current classic.

Ted Baker and Zara round out the selection; Ted Baker’s Gonys oxfords are less than $250 and have all the details of a traditional shoe. Zara’s leather brogue looks great for $99 but Zara’s shoes are not known for longevity. But if you are more interested in getting the trend and less concerned with longevity then this
might be the shoe.
